Short intro
Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred is the next major expansion for Diablo IV, continuing the “Age of Hatred” saga with a brand-new campaign focused on Mephisto. It adds new content and progression for endgame players, plus a major gameplay shake-up—most notably the return of the Paladin as a playable class (with additional class content also planned).
Story overview
After Lilith’s defeat, Sanctuary is still in danger—because Neyrelle is struggling to keep Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, contained. As Mephisto’s influence grows, corruption spreads and the story drives toward a final reckoning, pulling you into his schemes and the escalating conflict threatening all of Sanctuary.
Gameplay Mechanics (Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred)
Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred is a major expansion built around a new campaign arc against Mephisto, plus big system changes that refresh character builds and endgame progression. It adds two new classes (Paladin and Warlock) and introduces new ways to customize skills, chase loot, and structure your late-game activities.
Two New Classes: Paladin and Warlock
Lord of Hatred expands the roster with the Paladin (holy, defensive/offensive hybrid style) and the Warlock (dark magic toolkit). Your class choice strongly shapes your build and how you approach both survival and burst damage in endgame content.
Skill Tree Reworks and New Skill Variants
The expansion aims to deepen buildcrafting with major skill tree reworks and new skill variants across the game’s classes, pushing more meaningful choices and experimentation—less “one correct build,” more flexibility depending on content and gear.
Loot Filter and Cleaner Item Hunting
A headline quality-of-life mechanic is a Loot Filter, designed to reduce junk noise and help you spot the drops you actually care about—especially important once you’re farming endgame at high speed.
War Plans: Player-Chosen Endgame Progression
Endgame gets a new layer called War Plans, letting you craft a progression path by selecting the activities you enjoy and applying modifiers to chase better rewards. It’s a “build your own endgame route” system rather than a single fixed grind.
Echoing Hatred: High-Pressure Horde Challenge
For players who want a pure stress test, Echoing Hatred is positioned as an endgame challenge built around facing unending demonic hordes—a survival and build-check mode where efficiency and durability matter as much as damage.
Horadric Crafting Returns
The expansion also brings back Horadric Cube-style crafting, adding another long-term progression layer for optimizing gear and pushing builds further (especially for endgame-focused players)
